Description
This edition includes two volumes. The entire work has been divided into 47 Chapters according to the topic analyzed in the dialogue. It should be noted that the Commentaries of Proclus on Plato have been included Cratulus with a special explanatory analysis by the author. Specifically, the project has been divided as follows:
Volume I includes Introduction, Division of the dialogue into Units - Parts - Chapters, Summaries of Parts and Chapters, Ancient Text and Rendering of Chapters 1-23 and Commentaries 1-162, which correspond to them. The topics that are analyzed mainly concern the structure of the soul, the classes of Demons and the Gods.
Volume II includes the rest of the Ancient Text and the Rendering of Chapters 24-47, as well as the corresponding Commentaries 163-360. Its main theme is related to the creation plan of Language and the dynamics of letters, the analysis of positive and negative concepts and the highlighting primarily of Mathematics and secondarily of Language as an interuniversal code of the divine plan.
At the end of Volume II, three Etymological Dictionaries are listed. The first includes 165 Etymologies of Socrates from Cratylus, the second 66 Etymologies of other Ancient Authors and the third 96 Etymologies of the Author, which have resulted from the analysis of the text of the dialogue.
The importance of Kratylos it is very large, as it presents the blueprint for the construction of the divine Greek language, which constitutes an interuniversal code, which has all the Truth hermetically sealed within it. The emblematic saying of Cicero is characteristic:
"O gods are chosen,
they use the Greek language."
(Cicero Roman orator and politician 106-43 BC)
"If the Gods speak to each other,
they use the language of the Greeks."
Kratylos or On the Correctness of Names is the work of Plato that deals with the topic of the construction of the Greek Language and the first work of the world secretariat on etymology.
The following questions are asked:
- What is the purpose of Kratylos?
• What does Socrates say about the origin of Language?
• Are there, after all, rules that are followed in the creation of names and what are they?
•Which names are considered correct?
• Do we get any knowledge about things from the analysis of proper names?
•What, in the end, is etymology for?
• Where should we look for knowledge?
Regarding the source of knowledge, Socrates gives a clear answer to Cratylus that it is found in the things themselves and not in the names, which are images of their essence. And the essence itself is described by number, as Pythagoras said, so it is found in the positive sciences, which use Mathematics, because they lead you to "learn", which means a deep understanding of things. Therefore, in closing:
KRATYLOS = HYMN TO MATHEMATICS
AND SECONDARY IN THE GREEK LANGUAGE
